Equipment

High-speed internet requires high-performance hardware. Get to know the professional-grade devices that power your Mainstream Fiber connection and learn how to keep your home network running at peak efficiency.

HARDWARE ESSENTIALS

Technology Built for Tomorrow

At Mainstream Fiber, we don’t just provide a signal; we provide the advanced hardware necessary to translate that signal into a seamless digital experience. From the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that bridges the gap between our fiber lines and your home, to the powerful Wi-Fi 6 routers that distribute that speed to every device, each piece of equipment is chosen for its reliability and performance. Understanding how these devices work together is key to maintaining a stable, lightning-fast connection for your entire household.

Quick Hardware Tips:

MEET YOUR GEAR

The Tools of the Trade

The Fiber Bridge

The ONT (Optical Network Terminal)

The ONT is the most critical piece of equipment in your home; it is the “bridge” that converts the pulses of light traveling through our fiber-optic cables into the digital data your devices understand. Think of it as the high-tech successor to the traditional modem. The ONT requires a constant power source and should never be moved or tampered with. It features specific indicator lights that can tell you at a glance if your fiber signal is healthy
and active.

Network Intelligence

The Command Center (Router)

Your router is the “brain” of your home network, responsible for directing traffic and ensuring every smartphone, laptop, and smart TV gets the bandwidth it needs. Our latest Wi-Fi 6 routers are designed to handle dozens of simultaneous connections with minimal latency, providing a massive wireless “highway” for your data. To get the most out of this device, it should be placed in a central, elevated location. Avoid hiding it in cabinets or behind metal objects, as these can significantly weaken your wireless signal and slow down your connection.

Total Home Coverage

Mesh Wi-Fi Extenders

For larger homes or layouts with thick interior walls, we offer Mesh Wi-Fi extenders to eliminate “dead zones” and ensure a consistent signal in every corner. Unlike traditional range extenders that create a second, slower network, our mesh units work in perfect harmony with your primary router to create a single, seamless Wi-Fi environment. As you move from room to room, your devices will automatically switch to the strongest signal without dropping your connection, ensuring that your 4K stream or video call never misses a beat.

The Physical Link

Cabling & Connectivity

While wireless freedom is convenient, the physical cables connecting your devices play a vital role in your network’s overall performance. We use professional-grade Ethernet cables (typically Cat6e or higher) to connect your ONT to your router and to provide stable, wired connections for high-demand devices like gaming consoles and desktop PCs. It is important to ensure these cables are plugged in securely and are free of sharp kinks or heavy pressure, as physical damage to the internal wiring can lead to intermittent signal loss and reduced speeds.
