FAQs

Like other major utilities, construction of a fiber-optic network is completed through aerial and underground installment of cable along an engineered route.

Fiber must be tested and equipped before being activated for customers, so newly installed fiber is not immediately ready to be installed to homes and businesses. Staying informed is critical to know when service will be immediately available in your area or the next steps to being connected.

Areas not shown on the initial route will continue to be considered for expansion based on community demand. Neighborhoods that show the most engagement by joining Mainstream’s request list with high participation will be considered for service first. Additional information to be provided.

Currently installation cost with Mainstream Fiber Networks is based on a number of factors and dependent on what is quoted when you sign up, however, many times we offer a discount or waive the installation cost entirely when we open a new area up to installation.

During the installation, an installation technician runs a fiber cable from the mainline directly to the side of your home. Equipment is then placed, specifically, a Network Interface Device (NID) is put on the exterior of the residence, and is connected to a router that is placed inside the house.

Fiber optic service is the most reliable type of internet service available because the cables are often on the same poles as your electrical wires, or they are buried underground, meaning that so long as you have electricity, you will have service. Typically the service is only interrupted by a true break in the cable or regular network upgrades.

Mainstream currently offers 2 residential fiber internet download speeds: 50 mbps and 1 Gbps. Visit here for additional information.

If service is available in your area, Mainstream will buy out your existing service agreement up to a set amount, making the switch easier.

No. All of Mainstream Fiber Networks’ plans include unlimited data. There are no data caps or throttling of speeds. You simply select the speeds you require and are able to use it as much as you want.

As part of our current community partnerships and in future expansions into new communities, Mainstream Fiber Networks will cover the cost of construction for installing the mainline fiber cables in your neighborhood zone. You are then responsible for the cost of installation from the mainline cable to your home. This cost is included in the standard installation cost.

All equipment to get the service into your home is provided by and warranted through Mainstream Fiber Networks.  However, if you would like additional Wi-Fi coverage or other options, you would need to purchase separate equipment.

Many factors impact the beginning of installation, but it generally takes 60-90 business days to get you fully connected, however, we will do our best to get you connected in about 45 business days. For more information, please visit our What to Expect page which breaks down the installation process in full.

Standard agreement length is 36 months; with most of our infrastructure being new, this helps Mainstream Fiber Networks cover costs with our initial network investment and keep our prices competitive.
