- Open a web browser on a device connected to your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the router's IP address into the browser's address bar. Common addresses include 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. You can find this information in the router's manual or on a label on the router itself.
2. Log In to the Router:
- Enter the router's username and password. If you haven't changed these credentials, you can find the default login information in the router's manual.
3. Navigate to the Reset Section:
- Look for a section related to system administration or settings. There should be an option for resetting the router.
4. Choose a Soft Reset:
- Typically, there will be an option for a soft or partial reset. This option will restart the router without erasing your customized settings.
5. Confirm and Restart:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the reset. The router will restart, and your network will be momentarily interrupted.
- On most routers, there is a small reset button. This button is often recessed and may require a paperclip or similar tool to press.
2. Power Off the Router:
- Turn off the router by unplugging it from the power source.
3. Press and Hold the Reset Button:
- Press and hold the reset button. While holding it, power on the router by plugging it back in.
4. Hold Until Lights Blink:
- Continue holding the reset button until the router's lights start blinking. This usually indicates that the reset process is underway.
5. Release the Reset Button:
- Release the reset button. The router will now go through the factory reset process.
6. Wait for the Router to Restart:
- Allow the router a few minutes to complete the reset process and restart.
7. Access the Router's Web Interface to Reconfigure:
- Once the router has restarted, you'll need to log in to the web interface using the default credentials (usually found in the manual) to reconfigure your settings.
Performing a hard reset will restore the router to its factory default settings. This means you'll lose any custom settings, such as Wi-Fi network names and passwords.
*** Remember that a hard reset should be used cautiously, as it erases all custom configurations. It's generally recommended to try a soft reset first and only resort to a hard reset if necessary for troubleshooting.
