School Corporation Invests in Future

Fast, reliable fiber Internet changes the ways of learning for students

At a Washington County Economic Growth Partnership meeting, Keith Nance met with Mainstream’s executive team, where they were discussing Mainstream’s mission to provide reliable, high speed, fiber Internet to rural areas of Indiana. Nance, Superintendent of the West Washington School Corporation, has been with the corporation since January of 2011. He was excited to hear more about Mainstream’s work as he thought about how West Washington School was limited to a wireless Internet that had minimal reliability and slow speeds at only 100 mbps. He set up a meeting with MSFN to talk about the school’s needs and how fiber could help the community as a whole. Nance commented, “They let me be a part of the process and even give feedback on the possible route.”

Nance says now that the school has fiber, it has completely changed the atmosphere and the way students learn.

West Washington School is now a leading 21st Century Learning Environment and provides its students with either a Chromebook or iPad.

Nance stated that the way the students learn, receive information, and get feedback has improved due to their new access to faster, more reliable Internet. The West Washington School Corporation was the first in its area to set up fiber internet. He thought some people seemed hesitant about fiber, but the school was ready to take the next steps toward bettering their communication and learning. “Mainstream has been alongside us throughout this process. They helped us identify infrastructure improvements we needed to make” says Nance.  Learn more about West Washington Schools

Since the school received fiber internet access in 2016, Mainstream Fiber Networks has continued to work closely with the school corporation. If there are outages, Mainstream has been quick to diagnose and fix problems. Nance noted that even the CEO, Bryan Gabriel, will show up on site to fix issues. Mainstream is working to connect the community with reliable and fast Internet that can match advancing technologies. Nance is thankful for the opportunity to have a fairly priced Internet, comparable to the type of Internet you could get in cities. He stated, “The West Washington School Corporation is extremely grateful to Mainstream for the service they brought to our school and the service they continue to provide to our children and community.”
